Information You Submit
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search widget is sent to the third-party provider that supplies the sponsored result. New Haven Residents Directory does not retain a copy of that search. If you contact us, we receive the information in the message and use it to answer or route the question.
Routine Technical Logs
Hosting systems may record an IP address, browser type, page request, and time stamp in ordinary server logs. Those records help keep the pages available and show broad traffic patterns. Basic analytics or advertising measurement may use cookies or similar tools where they are enabled.
How the Information Is Used
Technical information is used to operate the pages, diagnose faults, understand aggregate traffic, and improve the reference material. Visitor lists are not sold, and individual user profiles are not created from the limited data described here.
External Portals and Links
Pages point to New Haven and Connecticut records portals, courts, libraries, archives, and sponsored search tools. Once you leave these pages, the destination’s privacy notice and terms control what you submit. A linked custodian may collect information under its own public-record or service process.
Possible Recipients
Hosting and technical providers may process ordinary server logs. If analytics or advertising tools are active, their providers may receive the limited automatic information described above. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires it; otherwise, it is not shared as a visitor list.
Security and Retention
The pages use an encrypted connection. Logs are kept only for as long as the operational purposes above call for them, subject to hosting practice and legal need. Because there are no user accounts, this site does not hold a password or account profile for you.
Children and Young Users
The material is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from someone under 18. If you believe a minor sent information, use the Contact page and identify the message so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on the law that applies to the requester and the data holder, a person may ask to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal data kept by a qualifying business. Connecticut’s Data Privacy Act, CGS Chapter 743dd, took effect July 1, 2023 and includes rights and opt-outs for covered businesses. State and local government records are exempt from that business-law route. The law’s current amendment material should be checked before relying on thresholds or child-data details.
Because this reference keeps very little, a request to search the contact mailbox or available logs is usually limited. Use the Contact page to ask. The Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, CGS §§1-200 through 1-243, governs access to records held by public offices, including New Haven custodians, but a request to this private reference cannot erase a City Clerk deed, court docket, Grand List, or voter record. Those requests belong with the original custodian.
